Wii spotting

Last Wednesday over lunch I when to Target and as I was in the Electronics section the staff was unpacking a shipment of Nintendo Wii.  This is actually not the first time I've seen the hard to find console in stores.  I was at the exact same Target just after Thanksgiving and saw they had Wii in stock.  At my first sighting I was a bit shocked but I just assumed Nintendo was living up to their pre-launch promises of having four million units out by EOY and people could just walk into a store and buy one.  As we know Nintendo ended up only shipping a little over a million units to the US and has not met the demand.  Ever since I saw that first Wii I wondered if I should have just bought one.  I do want to buy the Wii but surprisingly not for myself but for my wife.  You see I am content not owning a Wii because I think it's a total gimmick and will be replaced by a more powerful console in three years.  They most likely will keep the tilt controls but make a console that can compete graphically with the PS3 and 360.  I am also not sure if the only real reason I would want to get one is that they are tough to find.   Maybe it's that need to be the first guy on the block with the new toy.  I'm not sure.  What I do know is last Wednesday I had the opportunity to buy a Wii and I walked away empty handed.  It was tough but I know my wife would be pissed and my son is just too young.  I'm thinking I will wait for next Christmas to buy one.  By then he will be 3+ and I think will be able to handle the controls.
