Vegas Complete
I finished RainbowSix:Vegas last night. The ending of the game was a bit of a dud but overall it was one of the best RainbowSix games I've played. The story was actually good with some predictable plot twists and some quality dialog. The game play was improved with better AI and a refreshing change in scenery. It's nice to not be doing through factories and warehouses. Playing in casinos with all the noises associated to the gaming machines in them was refreshing. The cover system is good but needs some tweaking. In some places the firing from cover is simply broken. The graphics in the game are excellent. The use of the Unreal 3 engine has really improved how games will be played this generation. There where a couple spots that the graphics did not load on time but other than that everything was great.
Since this game came out the same time as Gears of War there have been a lot of comparisons between the two. Both use the Unreal 3 engine and support a cover system. Gears is a 2nd person shooter while RainbowSix is a first person shooter. Gears is a sci-fi game while RS is a realistic anti-terrorist unit game. Both games are very good and are a lot of fun to play and offer co-op and online multiplayer. The major gripes with the two games has to be the cover systems: in gears you can get stuck to a wall accidentally and in Rainbow holding down the left trigger is difficult and often you do not know what will happen as you try to maneuver around cover. Gears is a bit short but the replay ability is very high while in Vegas the single player levels are long you are most likely not going to replay the story mode again. Rainbow has many more online game types to choose from and has a very familiar party system while Gears has few modes and if you want to play with your friends you have to play in non-ranked matches. Still Gears online has the modes you need and is a bit more fun. I would give Gear's story mode a 9.5 and online a 8.5 averaging a 9 overall while I'd give Rainbow's story mode a 9 and online mode a 9 averaging a 9 overall. In the end both games are great and only available on the 360 right now.
