At exactly 5 am PST tomorrow Halo 3 public beta will commence.  That's 7 am local time for me.  I will attempt to download the beta in the 360's new low power download mode.  You can now power everything down on your 360 expect the hard drive and internet connection for occasions when you download a large file that takes a long time.  When I downloaded Forza 2 that went surprisingly fast.  Perhaps maybe a half hour for the 600 MB file to download.  In the past this was really slow but now MS has improved their servers to handle the user load.  At any rate I'll be playing Halo 3 tomorrow and will give my input on how the game plays. I'm excited to see the new changes in action.
