April Sales

I wanted to mention the April sales data before I went into my Halo 3 impressions because of the trends this data is showing. Like usual the DS sells like crazy and is selling a ton of software. The new Pokemon game sold almost 2 million units in the US alone in April and over seven million worldwide YTD. The Wii is still selling very well and does seem to be more available to those that are hunting for a system. The jump of over a 100K units over last month and expect another bump in May as it looks like the Wii will sell 400K in May as more units are now available. Sales for all other home consoles dropped in March with none of them selling over 200K units and the PS3 selling an embarrassing 82K units (less than half the sales of the Xbox 360). Selling over 300K a month is considered very good, 200K a month is good and selling less than 100K is very bad. The PS2 never sold less than 170K in it's seven year life span. The other interesting trend is the rejuvenation of the PSP. Ever since the price drop from $199 to $169 the PSP has increased sales by a third. Hopefully Sony and Microsoft will try this out on their home consoles and see if they can get their sales numbers back in good standing.
