Burning day

At my new house I have several trees on the property and most are fully grown and a bit overgrown. As a result is seems when ever there is a strong storm that passes through we lose a few branches. Well so far this summer two large branches have fallen, one being 15' long and the other being 25' long. I would just pull there over to the side of the house and keep them there for a day like Saturday.

Since we've gotten some rain lately I felt it was safe to start burning some of these fallen branches. I had already prepared some of the branches by cutting off the small branches that hung off the main branch. I gathered these up and commenced to take them to the fire pit. Since the leaves on these branches had dried out quit a bit it was fairly easy to get a good fire started.

I spend the morning gathering branches, cutting them down and throwing them into the fire. I was a bit surprised how fast all these branches burned up. I also had some trimmed branches from a tree in my yard so I threw those in as well. I was so pleased with how everything was burning I decided to take the branches I cut off of a pine tree in my yard and threw those in as well. Wow, they burn hot and fast. The fire got higher than me and at that moment I understood why forest fires rage so out of control. Luckily the fire dies down and nothing around the fire pit caught on fire.

Erin decided to run to the store to buy stuff for us to make smores. Well we learned Colin is not a fan of smores but sure likes the chocolate bars. He refused to even try a smore and decided to pout about the whole situation. We decided it was bed time for him.

In the end I was able to burn almost all of the branches that fell. I still need to use the chainsaw to cut apart the main branch so I'll maybe wait till then weekend to get that done. I also have plans to cut down a few of the smaller trees in my backyard. So you could say I've gotten myself a nice little project going on in the backyard. I'm going to try really hard not to do any structural damage to the house or myself.
