Working with JSF

I've been spending time building out examples of components to help get my team up to speed on JavaServer Faces (JSF). My current project will be using JSF with Ajax4Jsf and RichFaces for the web portion of the application. The team has limited experience with Struts 1 and was mostly SilverStream developers in the past.

So far I really like JSF as a web framework. It seems to have looked at the other web frameworks that came before it and has tried to borrow their best features and borrow the benefits from rich user interface technologies like Swing and .net to blend a web framework that will meet the demands of enterprise applications.

One of the big features of our new application will be a tree view of account settings. This tree will be used in several places but the most import area will be in our account setup wizard. In this piece of the app we will be using Ajax to show real time changes to the tree as the user answers questions.

The rest of the app will be more common fair with some possible uses of Ajax added where it makes sense. I have been pleased with the components provided in RichFaces and JSF. I have found JSF very easy to pick up and start using after finding some good examples of how to setup your project. I'll post more about JSF as the project moves forward and we start building the screens.
