About the collapsed bridge

If you live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area you have most likely driven of the I35W bridge that collapsed on Wednesday evening during rush hour.  I know of several people that take drive that bridge on a daily bases, luckily all are accounted for.  The bridge was 40 years old and thankfully it crossed over a narrow section of the Mississippi river.  From the news I've heard today the death toll is at four but there are about 20 to 30 people unaccounted for.  It's hard to believe a bridge would collapse like that without warning and having just been reviewed in 2005 and 2006 with no significant issues.

Our wonderful democratic senator took less than a minute to congratulate the local government for responding to the tragedy and take a shot at the President over Katrina.  She did say one thing that I agree with, bridges don't just collapse in America.  This just seems way too fishy to have been an accident or a fatal case of incompetence.  I am positive I remember hearing that there where people with terrorist backgrounds taking pictures of bridges in the US for the purpose of making them collapse.  I think it's too early to lean one way or the other but this just doesn't feel like an accident.

For those of you that don't know the area the twin cities is the crossroads of I94 and I35.  Here I35 divides a few miles south of the twin cities and splits into I35E, which goes through St. Paul, and I35W, which goes through Minneapolis.  The bridge that collapsed was about a 1000 yards long but only part of was over the Mississippi river.  It is reported that over 100,000 motorists use this bridge everyday.
