It's official, Xbox 360 price dropped
Well it's now official. On the 8th the Xbox 360 will have a new set of prices:
Xbox Elite(Black Box): $449
Xbox Pro(White Box): $349
Xbox Core(Green Box): $279
Xbox Halo Edition: $399 Available in September
I think this will help sell 360's for the arrival of Halo 3 and should get the 360 back to over 200K sales per month till the new SKUs arrive. Personally I would wait for the Halo edition 360's since they will include the new motherboard configuration with HDMI and runs cooler. Some new 360's manufactured in '07 contain the new heat sink but so far there is no guarantee way to be sure if a 360 has one or not.
The real question is this the final price cut for the year and is this just a clearance sale? There has been talk of a Pro model bundled with Table Tennis coming to market this fall. Maybe these would be the 360s with the new motherboard setup like the Halo 3 editions. Dropping the price $50 is welcome but not the kind of change that drives consumers to your product. If another $50 price drop came around November when the market is flooded with the new 360 that are guaranteed not to fail, you would see the 360 win another holiday season and retake the top console spot in the US.
