Here come the PS3 games

I tend to not write too much about the PS3 but I think this is a very important time for the console.  One of the biggest complaints about the PS3 is that there is very few games to play on the console.  Since launch it's been slow going with a few ports and a few downloadable games that have come out but now that is about to change.

In the period of three weeks, three of the most anticipated games for the PS3 are coming: Warhawk, Lair and Heavenly Sword.  Warhawk is a multiplayer only FPS shooter with vehicles.  This game has gotten some good press and is one of the first download able games that will also be at retail.  Lair is an action game that allows you to ride on a dragon.  This game is visually very impressive but did not review very well.  It seems that the quality of the game's level vary and the controls are a bit off when riding the dragon.  The game that looks like the best of the group is Heavenly Sword.  This game is an action game where you play as dual sword wielding heroin with long flowing hair.  Her hair has gotten a lot of attention because of how bad it animates.  That aside this game is again very visually impressive and can throw hundreds of enemies on the screen.  The biggest complaint is that the game turns out to be very short and is a bit of a button masher.

These three game represent Sony's first move to get folks talking about their system.  These games will be held up against games like Gears of War and Dead Raising as games that are second generation games for their respective consoles.  These games will show off what the PS3 is capable of graphically.  It will also show how well PS3 users can rally behind a given title.  So far very few PS3 games have gotten significant sales (mostly because they have been ports from Xbox, Xbox 360 and PS2)  support since the launch of the system.  If these titles can move units ans possibly move consoles the PS3 will show it can compete this generation.

This fall is an extremely important time for the PS3 because every month that passed they are losing consumers to the Xbox 360 and the Wii.  Sony is making a big assault on the 360's core demographic by tying up exclusive FPS like Haze and Unreal Tournament 3.  These early games are needed to help move consoles so that when these bigger games come out there will be people able to buy these games.  If Sony can't compete this fall you will see several PS3 exclusives turn into Xbox 360 games and we could see the death of the PS3 next summer.
