Tip 8 - Downloading content on Xbox 360

We are right at the start of the Tokyo Game Show.  Microsoft is running the "Bring it Home" campaign  to help keep Xbox 360 users that don't live in the land of the raising sun informed on the great games being shown there.  So Microsoft is placing demos and trailers for games like Sega Rally Revo, Devil May Cry 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 on Xbox Live Marketplace for gamers to download.  You can also download their pre-TGS press conference that shows game play of Ninja Gaiden 2 and Lost Odyssey.

Since some of these downloads can be as large a one GB in size the Xbox 360 allows you to queue up six downloads at a time.  Only one item can be downloaded at a time but the queue allows the Xbox 360 to start downloading the next item once the previous download is complete.

Another nice feature is the Xbox 360 allows you to go play games while you download.  This feature will download content while you are playing a local game on your 360.  If you start playing a multiplayer game online the download will pause till you are no longer online.  This ensures the download doesn't affect your connection to the multiplayer game.

If you really want to queue up several big downloads but don't want to keep your 360 on all day there is a solution for that.  The Xbox 360 has a power save feature that allows you to turn off your 360 and still let your 360 download content from Xbox Live.  This feature keeps the hard drive and modem powered up but turns off the rest of the system.  So now you can queue up several downloads, turn off your 360 and know that when you come back later those downloads have completed.

In all these features really make it easy to download items from Xbox Live Marketplace.  Sometimes I wish i could queue up more than six items at a time but other than that this service is really nice to have.  I love queuing up a few downloads then turning off the system and knowing tomorrow those downloads will be waiting fro me.
