Virtua Fighter 5 Impressions

I know this game has been out for a while but I'm just getting back into it.  Visually this has to be the shiniest game I've ever played with very picturesque environments.  It is no surprise this game was built to push HD to it's current limit.  As beautiful a game this is it is also a very fast game meaning it is definitely running at a very smooth 60 fps.  Considering VF5 is the top arcade in Japan right now it was interesting to see how the game makes the transition to the console.

So far I have played my way through the arcade mode, dojos and have spent some time in the quest portion of the game.  The arcade mode is a simple fight till the end against eight different opponents.  These opponents will give you a challenge but are not too unbearable.  I have been spending the majority of my time working through the quest mode.  In quest mode you can visit one of several arcades and face an endless stream of opponents.  Each arcade has a different difficulty rating so you can start out fighting armatures and then gradually choose to fight more advanced opponents.  I can see this mode taking a very long time to complete as there are several arcades to complete inside.  Another feature in the quest mode is the occasional tournament will start.  The tournaments are normally a few round sand so far have been fairly easy.

Character customization is a big part of Virtua Fighter 5.  You can earn money are items fightings in the quest matches to purchase clothing and accessories for your fighter.  The funny part about this you earn the most money for losing matches.  When you lose a match you are given money but if you win you only get cash from tournaments and item matches.  My main character is a masked wrestler and there are several variations to his outfits I can purchase.

So far I'm really enjoying  VF5 has a well balanced fighter that lets you play at your level.  Hopefully I'll be able to gradually improve and become champions of all the quest arcades.  It's a fun game to just pick up and play for a while.  I'll have to try the online to see if there is lag or not.  If the online is good then this may very well be the best fighter for the xbox 360.
