Best Games of 2007
So it's now time for me to pick my best games of 2007 even though two
of the games I really wanted to play haven't arrived from GameFly. I
feel confident in my game of the year choice and will have a few other
games worth mentioning.
Best Racing Game: Forza Motorsport 2
No racing game compelled me to keep coming back like Forza 2. It was the seemingly endless challenge to buy all the cars and complete all of the events. I really enjoyed tuning the cars and making them better so I could actually win the races.
Runner up: Dirt
Best Game No One Played: Overlord
This game was a fun mix of strategy, hack and slash dungeon crawling fun. The game got passed over mostly by the gaming press because it resembled some other Nintendo game. Plus it never got the marketing it deserved. This game was just a fun game to play with some real funny moments.
Runner up:Virtua Fighter 5
Best Game People Forgot About: Crackdown
Most people jocked this was the $60 Halo 3 beat that included Crackdown. As it turned out this was by far the best game of the first half of 2007. Crackdown was a fun game that was easy to pickup and play with a friend. It became more about finding orbs and scaling sky scrapers and jumping from roof to roof than actually cleaning up the streets.
Runner up: Lost Planet
Best Game with a Story to Tell: BioShock
By far the most compelling game I played all year. I loved the atmosphere and loved the story the game told. I tracked all those diaries down for the achievement but I listen to everyone because I wanted to know more about what happened in Rapture. This game has it's villains, heroes and it fools and over time they all switch roles.
Runner up: Call of Duty 4
Best 30 Seconds of Fun: Call of Duty 4
The single player game in Call of Duty is a very enjoyable experience filled with many intense moments. Some levels are just so memorable you want to go back and just play them for those moments. This game also has to two most interesting cut scene moments in a game I have ever played.
Runner up: Halo 3
Best Game of 2007: Halo 3
Most people have railed on Halo 3 for not being ground breaking enough or evolving the FPS genera. For people that don't play a lot of FPS games they don't see it's perfection. First off Halo 3 will knock you back with all the extras this game provides: Best Online game play, Forge Map editor, Theater for watching matches and campaign levels, 4 player online co-op in campaign, campaign scoring and an excellent ending to a trilogy. People tend to ignore all the extras that come with Halo 3. Halo 3 game play didn't have to be revolutionary, they already perfected the game play. All it needed was some polish.
