Week in Review
It's been a bit of a dull gaming week for me.
I've really been waiting for Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect to come
from GameFly but All I've gotten is Dynasty Warriors:Gundum and Avatar
Air Bender game. I really tried to play the Gundum game just to give
it a try but I couldn't get into it and I hate restarting the whole
level after I die. I shipped it back in hope of something better.
The Avatar game I put in my queue for the cheap 1000 gamer score. Any fools that make a game that allows you to gain all 1000 points in the first 2 minutes of the game should be fired. I can't tell you how good the game is or how the game play is. I literally started the game, ran to the one side of the opening area and hit B till I got every achievement. Once I got that last achievement I ejected the disk and mailed it back to GameFly. I felt a little dirt afterwards but but after playing a few rounds of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 I was better.
I did manage to gain two achievements in Virtua Fighter 5. I reached level 5 and I won one of the official tournaments. VF5 is probably the best fighter out there for the 360 right now. I can spend hours just fighting ai opponents in the arenas and so far in one I've beaten a third of the rivals.
I did buy the new Kingdom Under Fire game last night and gave that a spin. I did read the 1Up review and I have to say that I don't disagree with the text of the review but think the score is a bit low. Functionally the game runs at a good frame rate, is visually beautiful and has no technical flaws I can see. The game play is repetitive and the camera does get in the way occasionally but nothing horrible and you control the camera so at least you can fix it.
Now one might ask why didn't I buy Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect? Well both games are not in my core gaming genres. Assassin's Creed has stealth elements and I normally hate stealth games like Splinter Cell. I also got real tired of the conversation mechanics of the Old Republic games developed by the guys that build Mass Effect. So I want to rent both games instead of buying them. The Kingdom Under Fire game will take a while to get though since it has six different characters to play as with long levels to complete.
