Well it has been a hot day for price cut related rumors.  It seems the word on the street is Sony plans to cut the price of the PS3 to $299 on January 28th.  This would be an unprecedented move in the video game world.  Sony has already dropped the price of the PS3 by $200 since it's launch 14 months ago. 

If this is true it sounds like a desperate action by a company realizing it has to make dramatic changes to get back into the US market.  How much money is Sony willing to lose on the PS3?  If it means getting more BluRay players in peoples hands maybe the losses are with it to Sony.  One has to assume Microsoft will counter this move and we will see some really affordable consoles for sale.
