Is Microsoft shipping back Falcons for RROD Xbox 360s?
While listening to the latest Xbox 360 Fanboy Podcast, their newest member of the fancast talks about his recent experience with shipping in his console for repair. There was one very interesting tidbits mentioned and kind of passed over in the podcast. Now when you send in your Xbox 360 for repair you are required to send back the power brick as well.
To the novice this may not be all too interesting but for those that know the new Falcon (see below) chipsets comes with a different power supply. The new power supply is slightly smaller and uses a two prong outlet. So what does this mean? Well it could mean one of two things: 1) when you ship in a Xbox 360 with the old chipset you will get back a 360 with the new chipset or 2) the reverse, you send in a Falcon and get a Xenon back....which would suck.
What I suspect is happening is users will be getting the updated Falcon chipset back since it has all the motherboard corrections. These Xbox 360's will then be less like to fail again unlike the current models that seem to die a couple weeks or months after getting returned. It will be interesting to hear what gets send back to this person. I'm sure they'll talk about it on the podcast when his 360 returns.

From Wikipedia:
"Starting at the end of September, the newest systems were shipped with the new "Falcon" motherboard. This motherboard includes the new 65-nm CPUs, making them quieter and cooler than the older systems."
BTW I have a Falcon and it does not run quieter. After a long day of gaming and watching a HD-DVD that fan runs very loud. So loud I decided to stop gaming in fear of killing another Xbox 360.
