Conan Impressions
When I think of Conan, I tend to think of Arnold Schwarzenegger cutting people in half and speaking of Crom. It sure doesn't help a game when they are offering up a Conan game and the lead character sounds nothing like Arnold Schwarzenegger but you get lots of dialog to Crom. Still this hack and slash action game has enough to offer to make it worth a rental. The game is at best an unpolished attempt to knock off God of War. The game play is very similar with blood, context sensitive actions and boobs.
I've completed the game as far as I am willing to go. I have reached the final boss and was so frustrated I shipped the game back. Towards the end of the game the difficulty ramps up and the environment kills goes up exponentially. The last area before the final boss is so irritating I think it took me seven attempts.
Still the game has some nice qualities. I did like the story of the game and felt the game had a good balance of action and puzzle solving. None of the puzzles where too hard to solve and for the most part the combat was enjoyable.
The real problems with Conan that drop this game from being a big title are mostly technical. There is a lot of slow down in the game menus and during game play. The graphics in this game are a bit weak. This game looks like a really good Xbox or PS2 game instead of a Xbox 360 title. The game is really missing the polish that would have made this game a better title.
In the end I think this game is a fun title that is probably only worth a rental. The game really doesn't add anything to the genre or does anything really cool. It's just a solid game that will give you a few hours of fun but a few hours of annoyance towards the end of the game.
