Call it a Comback: Wii close to Surpassing GameCube in Lifetime Sales

With the news that the Wii has sold 20.1 million consoles worldwide in about 14 months it begs the question how long till the Wii will surpass Nintendo's last offering, the Game Cube.  The Game Cube sold 21.7 million  units in it's six year life span.  That puts the Wii a mere 1.6 million consoles away!  That's like maybe an average month worldwide for the Wii.

The Wii has been an amazing comeback for Nintendo in the home console market.  There was a belied that Nintendo should have gotten out of the home console market and put their emphasis on portable gaming and publishing games.  Ever since Sony had gotten into the home console market Nintendo's influence and sales began to dwindle. This generation we are seeing a return to form for Nintendo and Sony is the one with lower than expected sales and is losing exclusives to Microsoft and Nintendo.
