With the talk of Ninja Gaiden 2 coming our soon for the Xbox 360 I decided to play a little Ninja Gaiden Black on my 360. I had already played the game on my 360 but after one of the updates my saves got corrupted. Now that was really annoying because this game is hard. The update does make the game look a lot better but I don't remember the camera being so funky.
Speaking of hard, I'm having a hell of a time with Guitar Hero 3 on medium. I beat career on easy and am halfway through the career on medium and am having a hard time. I never played any of the other guitar hero games so this is my first exposure to the game. I think the difference between easy and medium is too much. On easy it's slower and you have less notes to worry about. My wife has given up on the game and she used to play it more than I did.
There has been talk of a single console for gaming. I think this is absolutely stupid talk from a bunch of folks that are annoyed PS3 is doing so poorly this generation. If we had one platform would we have ever gotten the Wii or Xbox 360 Dashboard or Home (assuming it eventually comes out)? No, we would have none of these cool features. I'm sorry the PS3 is too expensive and goes have good games yet. Maybe the PS4 will do better.
On that same note a lot of "news" has been coming out predicting the PS3 will do better in 2008 and even do better than the Xbox 360. Well first off the PS3 had a horrible 2007 in the US selling over a million less consoles. Really the PS3 can only do better in the US. In Europe the PS3 is picking up steam but it by no means lapping the Xbox 360. In reality the PS3 performs in Europe like the Xbox 360 in the US. Since the US still sells more consoles month over month than any other region the US is still the most important market.
People will not buy a PS3 just to get a BluRay player. Has anyone looked at this thing lately? It's huge and not that easy to setup. The average consumer wants a dedicated movie player, not a game console that plays movies. People think since BluRay has crushed HD-DVD that people are going to run out and buy a BluRay player. Don't count on it! Movies in HD still only look really good on TVs that cost well over a $1000. Most Americans can't afford to buy a 1080p TV right now. Hello! We are heading into a recession. I don;t think people are going to rush out and buy a HDTV and BluRay player anytime soon.
In closing I just started playing Mass Effect finally. I have to say it's a very cinematic game so far with a lot of dialog. The game is a choose your own adventure with some 3rd person shooter action. The game uses the Gears of War game engine so is shares some game play elements like taking cover. I was hesitant to play this one but it seems like this might be a big time suck for me.
