Looking for stuff to do in Burnout: Paradise

Sitting on my bookshelf for the past week or so has been the new Burnout: Paradise for the Xbox 360.  I had played the past two burnouts to some extent but was not a die hard fan of the series.  This year's Burnout did intrigue me because for the first time Burnout was going to an open world game structure ala Crackdown or Grant Theft Auto.  The developers have given you this huge city to drive around and explore looking for billboards to jump through, super jumps to hit and challenges to take on.

The Burnout series really has never been known for their racing, it was their crashes that always stood out.  In Burnout: Paradise you will find that there are lot more crashes than races.  I played for a few hours so far and I can attest that the game specializes in making it easy to wreck your can an enjoy the whole scene in slow motion.  I think this game has even been referred to as "physics porn" watching these cars break apart.

So far I've won a couple race but spend most of my time hunting down billboards and special gates to crash through.  It's a vast world to drive around in and hunt for billboards, gates and occasionally hitting a super jump.  There are races to ind if you want to by rolling up to a designated intersection.  Some races do require that you use a specific car so on occasion you will hit a race you can not compete in.  Not all races are point to point either, like previous burnouts the races can be Takedown events, Wanted events and other challenges.

I think Burnout: Paradise is a good looking game that takes gambles in their game play.  Unfortunately some open world games have a tendency of suffocating the gamers they are trying to free.  By offering no defined path in the game those gamers can't adopt and end up moving on to some other game.  When I played the demo, several people on my friends list were playing online but now it seems none of them have decided to get Paradise.  This game has all the makings of a fun online place to hangout with friends but no one seems to be willing to tryout this game.
