Burned out on Burnout
There are some games you just can't get enough of where you think about the game while at work or even have dreams about the game. Then there are games that you're like, "gosh, I haven't played X in a while. How about that." For me that game I kind of forgotten about is Burnout Paradise. This game is very close to passing it's expiration date if it has not already passed.
Now don't get me wrong, Burnout Paradise is a good game with nice graphics and good controls. There is the same fun game mechanics still in the game with crazy fast driving and fantastic crashes. You can also now enter Showtime (crash mode) anywhere while driving in the city by pressing down both bumpers on the controller. This is a poor man's version of crash mode mixed with some really unrealistic rolling mechanism.
The antithesis to Paradise for me has to be Devil May Cry 4 where I've spent almost 30 hours playing compared to 6+ hours playing Burnout Paradise. I'm now playing on Devil hunter mode and have gotten through almost all of the Dante levels. Playing Devil May Cry is really enjoyable because most levels only take about 25 minutes to play so I don't have to play for hours before feeling I've accomplished something. I can also squeeze in a level between other stuff since I know I won't be spending more than a half hour on any level.
After playing for 30 hours you'd think I'd have some serious achievement points in DMC4 right? Well I only have 160 points from DMC4. It's safe to say it's a bit tough to get achievements in Devil May Cry and you'll have to spend maybe 60 to 90 hours to get them all. In Burnout Paradise achievements aren't too hard to get since I already have 150 after 6+ hours of play. I think I'm close to getting a couple more if I want to spend more time in the game. Interesting to see how even an achievement point addict like me passes on the low hanging fruit to play a good game like Devil May Cry 4 over Burnout Paradise.
