Goodbye Lost Odyssey, Hello Rainbow Six Vegas 2
There are a few things that annoy me in games, one of them is when the game decides to kill you off and you lose hours of playtime. In Lost Odyssey I entered a random battle and in one turn the AI managed to petrify my entire party with two back to back All Stone attacks. The only way i could have adverted this was by having one of my members equipped with a block petrify accessory. Since Lost Odyssey has some stupid save points I lost about a good 40 minutes of game play.
This was the last annoyance in a series of annoyances. Prior to this I got into a random boss battle that I discovered once I beat the boss there are four more for me to take on. I had to defeat all four before they hit some city I was near. So when I failed to do this I was kicked back to my last save which was a good hour plus of game play ago. So I'm pissed I lost an hour because the game won't let me save my progress through some dungeon. So I'm done playing Lost Odyssey and have moved on to Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
Playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is like picking up a good book you read in the past. So far I'm not sure what's different from this to the first RS:Vegas game. At least the first mission is a lot better in Vegas 2. Still Rainbow Six is an excellent tactical FPS that is built on a solid foundation. I still don't get how the two games are linked other than they both take place in Los Vegas.
One improvement I have seen is the facial mapping using the vision camera. In the first Vegas you could take a picture of your face but it wasn't too good and it was only available online. In Vegas 2 your face is the actual single player game. It really is cool seeing your face when you go into cover mode. I've hear the co-op is also much better so I'm hoping to get some co-op in eventually as well.
I will give Rainbow Six online a few more tried before I move on. So far I'm not trilled with some of the game configurations. I'm not that great at RS online so I get killed a lot. By limiting respawns in matches this ends up punishing the weaker players. I hope this is just a few people not knowing how to setup matches. Either way I'll play a few more matches online and see how it goes. Hopefully I'll get some of my skills back and can start holding my own in matches.
