Where I've been
Well I forgot to write something letting people know I'd be offline for a few days. On last Thursday I went up north to play some golf with friends in Brainard. I didn't get back to Saturday night so I missed the NPDs and was without video games for three days. Once back I took Erin to Pittsburg Blue for her birthday. On Monday I reported for jury duty and was selected as a possible juror for murder one case. Unfortunately I was not select because of an incident that occurred to me over 20 years ago and my views on gun control.
Every Spring and Fall a group of about 20 of us head up to Brainard lakes area to play golf. The course is a dive but the cabin is nice and it ends up being fairly cheap. We also tend to play for money so for me the weekend ends up occasionally being profitable. This trip I won money on all three rounds we played. The first round we won the overall, second round we tied with another group and the final round we back nine. I played a lot better the first two rounds, hitting the driver very well and hit a couple nice golf shots. It was a good golfing outing.
Sunday night I took Erin to Pittsburg Blue for her birthday. It's a way overpriced restaurant that features cooking steaks "Pittsburgh blue" which is burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. I enjoyed by NY strip but felt at $36 it was a bit over priced. The cheese cake was very good and so was the service.
The trial I got assigned to was a drive by that occurred in 2006. The defendant was a young black man who really didn't look much different than any other young man. There were 55 of us called to the jury selection and each of us had to fill out a survey. I pretty much knew I was not going to get picked once I filled out the survey because of an incident that occurred when I was about 12. I was leaving the mall one night with my step-brother and got jumped by a couple black kids. They wanted my bike and tried to take it by force. I didn't give it up and thankfully a good samaritan came to my defense. During my interview with the defense attorney his first question was about this incident. He also lead his questioning with an analogy about an arson victim not being a good juror for an arson case.
Then he asked me about how I answered the questions about guns, Drudge Report and whether I could be partial in this case. I was a bit surprised he didn't know anything about the drudge report. I expect he was fishing for me to say it's a conservative new outlet. As for guns, I think they are an important part of our society and that the 2nd is the 2nd one for a reason. I do think we need to limit the accessibility of guns to ensure that nut jobs can't get a hold of them.
Well I wasn't chosen. I'm going to get caught up on some GTA and will post on the NPDs this week. I've got some other stuff to post about as well. I've started reading Ron Paul's latest book and think it's very good. He is a lot more mainstream on several issues that traditionally Republicans are pro business. It's a good read.
