You Win!! Finished the main story in GTA IV
Well I finally finished the GTA IV main story this weekend. It was a crazy long game I spent well over 60 hours playing and managed to complete in just under a month of playing. After finishing the game I can see why so many people love this franchise for it's dialog and story. I can also see why it go so many high scores from game reviewers because it really is an amazing game.
I know when I first started playing GTA IV I wasn't that impressed. I looked at the so so graphics and the annoying mission restart and was left a little bit annoyed. I really didn't find this game that great. Gradually as you get engulfed in the city, start caring about the characters and start associating with the main character you see how the game is amazing. Over time you will find there are characters you like and ones you dislike. Often you have to help the ones you don't like but on occasion you get to give them what they deserve.
The way the game emphasizes your relationships with the other characters you meet after coming to Liberty City leads you to know that someone you like will come to an unfortunate end. It is in your benefit to cultivate these relationships because they give you access to special items in the game. Often you have to go out and spend a lot of time with these people and the game lets you have important conversations with them while you drive around. The game really allows you to flush out these characters if you spend time with them. This is done to an extent I have never seen in a game before.
Now that I've played through my first Grand Theft Auto game I have to say it's a great game for adults. It is one really a fun game to play if you enjoy movies like Goodfellas or Casino. Your character is not a saint so you will be killing a lot of people but for the most part your actions all fall under the typical characteristics of a movie gangster. I really don't see why this game gets so much negative press. The freedom of GTA may allow you to go around killing innocent people or having sex with hookers but there is no reason to do that and it says more about you than the actual game. You have the choice on how you want to play the game which really is impressive. You are given a massive world to play in and it's up to you on how you want to interact with the people in Liberty City.
