Finished Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
So I just finished Uncharted: Drake's Fortune which happens to be the first PS3 game I've completed. I'd have to say this is a very nice game and I recommend it for anyone with a PS3. It's a nice fortune hunter action adventure game with some puzzles, platforming and 3rd person combat. The game takes place in a forgotten Spanish colony in Central American jungle. You will be fighting lots of mercenaries in the jungle ruins looking for Francis Drake's lost treasure.
This is a very good looking game for the PS3 and can be held up as an example of what the PS3 can do. It's still not the best looking game I've ever played but it is a true next gen game. For the most part the controls are excellent but on occasion you will not stick to cover when you expect. The cover system is fairly good but it's not perfect. Since no one has really mastered cover it's hard to fault them too much. One thing I was happy with was they really didn't throw in some gimmicky sixaxis controls. You will need to shack your controller if someone grabs you but that's all.
The story in the game is fairly solid in a cookie cutter kind of way. There are a couple small twists but for the most part the story doesn't get in the way of the game. There are several cut scenes used to tell the game's story and most of it doesn't seem to be in engine. The story in this game is a basic treasure hunt story where you are trying to find the goods before the bad guys and the bad guys way out number you so you'll be killing hundreds of them.
I found that there were some annoyingly challenging encounters in the middle of the game. These situations are not impossible but by adding the one hit kill element really makes replying the scenario annoying. Part of the problem is there is a couple sections where you are driving a jetski and you have to battle the controls and then manage to avoid explosive barrels, gunmen and snipers. There are not many big combat scenarios but one in the middle was supper annoying until I discovered the best way to handle the encounter. Overall there are more good parts of this game that let you forget about the really bad parts of the game.
In closing I think this is a game anyone with a PS3 that enjoys action adventure games should try. By far it's the best PS3 game I've played but it's also one of the better current gen games I've played. I don't really think it's expanding the genera but this is a solid effort. This game should keep any Lomb Raider fan happy while they wait for the next Laura Croft adventure.
