It was a big change for Insomiac Games to leave the family friendly genera for the 19r0's era FPS.  What they ended up producing is by far the best PS3 game I've played.  Resistance is a very competent FPS that takes place in an alternate reality where WWII never took place but what else happened was a new threat came out of Russia.  So far I'm well over half way through the game and feel the game is an excellent mix of story and action.

Considering this is a 1940's era game you would expect that the weapons and enemy would be standard fair WWII type game.  Well the common enemy in this game is anything but standard fair.  So far there is no explanation for where the Chimera come from but they seem to be alien or some mutation.  What they do have is some fairly interesting guns.  There are some really goof sci-fi guns that you pickup through out the game.

Technically the game performs well and doesn't do anything annoying.  The check point system might be a bit too far between areas but for the most part it's ok.  The game ignores some of the more modern FPS game innovations like making you hunt and peck for health.  They made sure to have the required vehicle missions but it's feels tacked on.  One thing this game is guilty of is the bland colors that seems to be a standard for most games this generation.

If you've got a PS3 and like FPS then you should check out this game.  It's not amazing by any means but is will be sure to fill your FPS needs.  The second game is this series will be out this fall and is promising some very large multiplayer matches.  Resistance is not one of the great FPSs this generation but will be sure to give you plenty of enjoyment.
