Gone Golfing
So if there is one thing I enjoy as much as playing video games it's playing golf. Both are expensive hobbies to have and since I can't rent greens fees I tend to play more video games. Well after I got back from Wisconsin I played one of those rare rounds that makes you think about playing again as soon as possible. That day I shot a 41 on the second nine with two birdies and drove the ball lights out.
Instead of watching the final round of the British Open I played an early morning round at one of my favorite munni's, Brookview Golf Course. It's by no means a well maintained course or a beautiful layout. What the course really is a fun challenging course on a mature layout with a nice number of long and short holes. From the tips it's almost 6400 yards but it has three par fives at 544, 561 and 534 with that last two requiring you to carry water on either your second or third shot. Several of the holes favor a fade or a draw off the tee. It is a challenging course off the tee emphasized by the 18th hole where you can carry the pond if you can carry the ball 260 or 270 but most likely you'll be trying to play it safe on this dog leg left.
Back to my round, I started out great piping my 3 wood about 240 off the tee giving me an easy wedge to a front pin placement. I hit that wedge to 20 feet of the pin and after launching my put five feet past the hole I made the come backer for par. I proceeded to play the never three holes at even par and even though I had a little trouble finding the fairway on the middle holes I managed to shoot a 43 on the front.
The back nine was a different story where I hit my driver very well on all but two holes. I twice found water off the tee and both with the same horrible swings that produced quick hooks. When I did find the fairway I could not take advantage and only hit one green in regulation. My iron game was a bit off on the back which ended up having me double bogey both par threes. I ended up shooting a 49 on the back to give myself a 92 on the day.
My take away from this round is that I need to watch out for the quick hooks I occasionally hit off the tee. I need to work on hitting a lot more greens. My driving accuracy on the year is 47% while my greens in regulation is only 25%. I'm playing Mississippi Dunes this weekend which is an easy driving course so I'm sure I'll drive the ball well. The greens are this course's defense so hopefully I will keep the putt total low and shoot a low number.
