Soul Caliber IV Arrived
It's always good when I get an over sized envelope in my mail box. It's either a movie from Netflix or a game from GameFly. Yesterday it was my copy of Soul Caliber IV. I played very little of the game that came out on the original Xbox but I remember it was a fun game. So playing the new game really is my re-introduction to the series because it's been so long since I played the xbox version.
I decided I would play through the story mode first and see how that worked out. Now most fighting games have some pretense of a story but don't emphasize it too much. Entering story mode ends up displaying a ton of test about why your character has chosen to fight. It's really lame stuff and thankfully you can skip it.
The game's combat on Normal is very easy and doesn't take a lot of skill to beat most characters. There is a higher setting that will make you work a little more. Most stages you take on a string of characters but like I said they aren't hard to beat. The final boss isn't that much of a challenge either.
I guess I'd have to say I'm not overly impressed by Soul Caliber IV. I may just have to spend some time finding the characters I like and work to learn their moves. I have fought using Yoda and he's way over powered. I then fought against the Apprentice from the new Star Wars game in Arcade mode and he's crazy hard to beat. I got some good combos on him but he always comes back. I need to figure out how to unlock him.
