Impressions of Lips for the Xbox 360

I spent about three and half hours playing Lips with my wife on Saturday night.  Considering I've never played a game with my wife for that long, Lips is a fun game.  Like other karaoke games, Lips comes with a nice selection of pop, rock, R&B, Country and Rap songs.  The game comes with two wireless microphones which is a huge bonus for us since we don't exactly sit right in front of the tv.  Another nice feature you can never fail a song.  No matter how bad you sing you will always be able to get a full turn singing a song.

Once we figured out how to get the microphones synced up to the 360 and get two people singing (need two profiles signed in) we worked through the entire catalog of songs.  We were able to just select random which played through all the songs with a nice pause after rounds to see your stats and before the next song so you can see what's coming next.  You will tally up a score as you sing but it will be recounted after the song is completed to add bonus for badges earned.  We ended up coming up with a couple fun phrases too.  If you had the best score at the end of the song but lost the final score you got Coleman'd  or they Franken'd you.  Only this time will 100% less stuffed ballet boxes!  Looking at you, Iron Range.

We ended up creating a custom play list at the end of the night to weed out the songs we didn't like.  I was able to import a few songs from my Zune as well.  It seems that you can import any DRM free song in to Lips but you will not get any words and a custom video will play instead of the song's music video.  After playing American Ideal on the Wii I was really impressed with how nice Lips played.  You're singing to the real tracks and you get to watch the song's music video.  The fact it comes with two wireless microphones is a really nice feature too.  I'm interested to see how often we continue to play Lips and if there are any good new songs that will come out.
