November NPDs show Video Games Recession proof
How can there be a recession going on when Nintendo can sell 2 million Wiis and two Xbox 360 games sell over a million copies? I already gave away one of the big numbers for November, the Wii sold 2.04 million consoles in November. WOW!!! That is an absolutely crazy amount of consoles to sell in a month not called December. How many more consoles can Nintendo sell in December? Traditionally it's double the November sales but I can't see Nintendo selling 4 million in December.
The also rans had a fairly good month too with Microsoft selling 836,000 consoles. The 360 had the top two games last month with Gears 2 selling 1.56 million copies and COD:World at War selling 1.41 million copies. I am a bit surprised about both of those numbers since I expected more copies of Gears to be sold and a lot less copies of World at War to be sold. Microsoft sold an excellent amount of consoles beating my expectations by over 100,000 consoles.
Sony will be pleased they did the November double, selling twice as many copies than in October. I think Sony has to be disappointed with the sales of Little Big Planet and Resistance 2 but please with the sales for World at War on PS3. It's clear that the experiment to have Insomniac create a FPS has been a failure. The fact they couldn't break half a million on one of the flagship PS3 exclusives is disappointing. It's clear the PS3 FPS fans are playing the Call of Duty games instead of Resistance 2.
Last month I predicted the Wii would sell 1.6 million copies, the 360 would sell 700 thousand and the PS3 sell 400 thousand. I think I did very well predicating the sales in November so I'm going to do it again for December. I think the Wii will sell 3.2 million, 360 will sell 1.6 million and the PS3 will sell 800 thousand. Traditionally not many big games come out in December. This is when people go out and buy the top games of the holidays so i expect to see Gears of War 2, World at War and the Wii games to sell very well.
