Weekend Update
I had good time gaming this past weekend. I spent a lot of time playing Gears of War 2 single player and multiplayer. Over the weekend I had one real goal in Gears of War 2: to find all the collectible items I'd missed the first time through. As a carry over from the first game, there are items to find scattered all over the levels in gears and each item has a story to tell. I also had a ugly sweeter party to attend on Saturday which was highlighted by the best beer I've ever had.
Playing Gears 2 a second time really lets you see the game for what it actually is, awesome. Now the game isn't just one big joy ride but the games does an excellent job extending the game universe. When you play through the game a second time you aren't dazed by glow of a new game. On the second play through the warts are exposed and you clearly know what sucks and what's cool.
In Gears 2, there are clearly some really cool acts in the game and some lacking acts. For the most part I think the first 1 and a half acts of the game are very so so. Some cool events are thrown at you like taking out a Brumack and going into the Hallow but for the most part it's not very interesting. The game really picks up when you play through the giant worm and when you go back underground the game is an awesome joy ride till the very end.
I also ended up playing a lot of multipler over the weekend. By far the first Gears was the game I played online the most. I think Gears 2 has what it takes to be the best multiplayer online when you look at Horde mode and their competitive modes. It seems that the multiplayer has been fixed for finding matches online. Now that it's easier to find matches is all depends on how well the game handles updates, quiters and cheaters. It's annoying to join a match only to have two or three open slots on your team because people dropped. I don't see why they can't back fill those slots with bots.
This leads me to my best Gears 2 moment online. I was joined into a match where I was on a short sided team of 5 vs 3 in Warzone. The two guys that stayed were actually very good. They saved my but and for some ungodly reason we won the match 5-2. My moment came when I got the torque bow and holed up in the second floor of a building on the River map. Both teammates dies quickly and it was their five guys against me. Well I manned up and took out all five guys. It was pure luck but I managed to kill two with the arrows from the bow and beat down two more with the bow. I then charged out from cover to shotgun the last guy to finish off their entire team. By far it was my best moment ever playing Gears 2.
Unfortunately I've had some annoying matches were the player who was the server quit. This means that the game and all it's stats are lost. I played two games of Horde on Sunday and both ended with the server quitting the match. I spent 18 rounds in one match were I got several kills and scored tons of points. To say the least it's extremely annoying to work hard and then lost all the stats.
To close out I was at a party this past weekend. One of the guests runs his own liquor store so he brought the booze. Now I'm not much of a beer fan but in the lack of a vodka tonic or some other suitable substitute I'll drink a beer. Well I got to drink probably the best beer I've ever tried this weekend, Golden Pheasant. This is a pilsner that is imported from the Slovak Republic. It was by far the smoothest beer I've ever drank. Unfortunately it only comes to his store in limited quantities. I'm hoping someone else around my area gets this beer because it was great.
