We will be seeing the December NPD numbers for North America later this week but until then we get a juicy morsel from ChartTrack (EU version of NPD group).  Normally very secretive with their console sales number ChartTrack has released their life time to date as of January 3rd, 2009 sales for the big three consoles.  Here are the numbers:

Wii - 4.9 million
360 - 3.2 million
PS3 - 1.9 million

To no surprise the Wii is the king selling at a nice pace over the 360 and PS3.  As expected the 360 has a fairly nice lead on the PS3 in the UK.  It is interesting to see the UK numbers and how they compare to the North American numbers.  The life time sales are about the same as a good holiday season in the US.  

What these numbers do give the informed is way to see how well sites like VGChartz.com compare since they provide data on Europe and other territories.  It seems VGChartz is very close to the mark which suggests their numbers are solid.  Here is their world wide sales totals for each console:

Wii - 45.8 million
360 - 27.5 million
PS3 - 19.6 million
