Thinking on Gears of War:Are the Locust humans?
There has been a lot of confusion about where the antagonists in the Gears of War story come from. Some misinformed individuals have suggested that the Locust are aliens. It is believed the first contact with the Locust was
Emergence Day, the day the Locust came out of the ground (not sky) to attack the
humans on Sera.
In Gears of War 2 the origin of the Locust are gets a bit fuzzy when you discover the Sires. Delta squad is give a mission to gather data from a previously confidential research facility. All the information on this site is on a need to know only basis and it's clear Delta nor their command, has any idea what happened in this facility. The facility has been abandoned by humans but has incredible defenses to keep anyone (or thing) out of the facility.
Now as it would happen there is a lot of talk about "saving the children" in the mission from the facilities AI host. The AI is a bit scripted as it gives them a tour of the facility. The site is named New Hope yet no where does it say what they are saving them from. It is also implied that they may not be thanked for the work they are doing. As you progress through the facility you discover the Sires. The Sires look like some form a mutated Locust drone. They also look kind of human which has many people thinking maybe the Locust are mutated humans. Is it possible the Locust are just a science project gone wrong?
If these scientists did create the Locust one might ask when did this occur? The chairman mentioned on this mission is not one of the two known chairmans so it's possible this was done well in the past. From looking at the structures built in the Hollow (Locust capital) I do not think these could have been built in 15 or even 30 years. It's clear the Locust have been underground for a very long time but could be be centuries or decades?
Still, if the humans made the drones where did all the other Locust creatures come from? I think this is where the idea of Locust as humans falls flat. Sure the Drones look like they could possibly be humans but none of the other creatures look like mutations. I think it's clear that the Locust are indigenous creatures to Sera and possibly were driven underground by humans centuries ago.
