What I'm Playing

It's been a very busy gaming week for me playing games on TWO systems this week.  I've been playing Little Big Planet, Call of Duty: World at War and the Killzone 2 demo on the PS3 and playing Afro Samurai, Maw and Gears of War 2 on the Xbox 360.  It's been a busy week for sure.

I think Little Big Planet is an awesome game that is just a joy to play.  The game is a 3D side scrolling platforming game where you control a sack boy.  You will acquire stickers you can place within the game levels as well as new outfits for your sack boy.  The controls aren't perfect so you will have some trouble approaching items correctly but for the most part you can over look this issue because the rest of the game is very fun.  You have the ability to create your own levels and download levels created by others as well.  This is a fun PS3 game you can play with the entire family.

Call of Duty: World at War feels like a WW2 Call of Duty game.  The action is frantic and the game look beautiful which is a credit to the Infinity Ward's game engine.  There is a very frantic feel to playing Call of Duty games where you just have to push forward to survive.  Hanging back is never an option because enemies will just respawn continuously.  I need to play more see if i actually like the game but I expect I'll go online and enjoy the multiplayer.

I've played the Killzone 2 demo twice now and it's a good game.  I need more exposure to get a better grasp on the game.  I will say this I do not think the game is as good looking as gears of War 2.  The guys in Killzone 2 look good but the environments are bland with not much detail.

I'm really loving on Afro Samurai right now.  I've started my second play through to game some more achievements.  Now that I've played through a second time I find a lot of the stuck spots are more my incompetence than anything else.  I've gotten used to the camera and now am working on perfecting the combat.  I've also watching the anime which I do like.  I'll pick up the second movie later this week.

I finished the Maw and have just been cleaning up on achievements.  I think I'm only missing one now and it's about playing the game at different times.  I probably won't get that once unless I'm up at 6 am.  This is a nice arcade title that is worth the price.

I played gears of War 2 for seven hours straight on Saturday with a couple friends.  We did some 2v2 with a bot set on insane.  The insane bots are not very smart and make for a difficult time if you've got the bot on your team.  We ended up making a rule if you won with the bot you kept playing with the bot.  It was tough to win more than one or two matches in a row with the bot and one of us could barely win a couple rounds with the bot (looking in Jay's direction).

I'm also working to get further in the campaign on Insane difficulty.  I think I'm at the second to last chapter in the 5th act of the game.  I'm so close to the end I can taste it.  I'm currently stuck at the spot where you enter a courtyard with a tryka, a few drones and a Kantis to start.  Eventually two boomers with shields and maces show up to kill me and I've yet to get past those guys.  I know what to do and how to get pat this area but I'm just not executing the scenario correctly.  These encounters are what make gears of war such a great game.  The set pieces are memorable and crazy enjoyable to overcome.
