April NPDs are here
By the time you read this the Wii has sold 20 million, the 360 has sold
15 million and the PS3 has sold 7.5 million consoles in the US. This
generation has really flipped the gaming world on it's head seeing
Nintendo regain it's crown and Sony fumble around without a clue.
In the first three months of 2008 the PS3 sold 807,000, the 360 sold 747,000 and the Wii had sold 1,427,000 units. In 2009 those numbers are: PS3 sold 697,000, the 360 sold 1,030,000 and the Wii had sold 2,033,000 units. While the 360 and Wii have seen significant sales increase from last year the PS3 has seen sales drop. Hard to believe how bad things have gone for the PS3 but still no price cut.
Capcom has supported the Xbox 360 like no other Japanese publisher and again that support has been rewarded. Resident Evil 5 sold almost a million copies on the 360 in March and sold a little over a half million on the PS3. This has been the most successful launch of a Resident Evil game since Resident Evil 3 was released on the PS1.
I have to admit I'm a little surprised how Halo Wars sold on the 360. Real time strategy games have never done very well on consoles so selling over half a million copies is very impressive. I really didn't think the first person shooter fans of the Halo games would make the transition to a strategy game. I'm actually quite surprised to see how many people on my friends list are playing Halo Wars.
