RIP 3D Realms
Last week the news came out that 3D Realms is no more. If you've never heard of 3D Realms you may have heard of Duke Nukem. It just happens that one of my favorite PC first person shooters was Duke Nukem
3D. The sequel was announced in Spring of 1998 and
was poorly named Duke Nukem Forever. It was supposedly in development for the Xbox
360 and PC but it seems they finally ran out of money which lead the the studio's closure. I'd be curious
to find out how many millions was blown by 3D Realms in the effort to
develop this game.
It seems Apogee Software has not been affected by the closure of 3D Realm. Apogee was the publishing house for Rise of the Triad (another of my favorite FPSs) and owns the Duke Nukem series. They have announced they will be publishing a Duke Nukem trilogy for the PSP and DS. So you will maybe be able to get some Duke Nukem fun soon for your hand held but your PC or game console will not see another Duke Nukem any time soon (unless you download the original from Xbox Live).
