The Real April NPDs are here

I guess I didn't realize last month I mistakenly called the March NPDs the April NPDs.  Well I'm guessing a few companies would be hoping the April numbers were the same March.  Every game system saw a loss in April except the DS and PS2.  The DS sold over a million with the launch of the DSi in North America and the PS2 was a price drop in the US which helped it outsell the PS3.  Ouch.

The Wii sold 340K (a drop of 261K), the 360 sold 175K (a drop of 155K) and the PS sold 127K (a drop of 91K).  So one might think the ecconomy has finally hit the gaming industry but one should look at the top selling software list to see what happened.  There were no good games released in April.  It takes good game to move hardware and nothing of note was released.

The last game I bought was Resident Evil 5 and I didn't see anything worth playing.   I really don't see anything worth playing in May (except Punch Out on the Wii) either so I wouldn't be surprised if these sales tends continue.  It's not till the end of May that games start looking good again.  I'll be checking out inFamous on the PS3, Fuel, Prototype, Overlord 2 and Fight Night 4 on the 360 later in May and June.
