Killing the Messenger
Recently the CEO of Whole Foods, John
Mackey, wrote an article for the Wall Street Journal about health care reform.
Whole Foods was one of the first companies to jump aboard the Consumer
Driven Health Care (CDHC) bandwagon. It is very clear that he favors
this kind of health care plan over the reforms the Obama team is
proposing. This stance has not been ignored by the "progressive" and
labor organizers out there. They have started to protest Whole Foods stores because the CEO has come out against Obama care. They probably
think he's a racist.
What they seem to ignore is that he outlines a real plan for health care reform. He first off describes the kind of health care 89% pf his employees receive, an Health care Reimbursement Account (HRA) plan. His employees have no co-pay for preventative doctor visits and have an account with $1800 a year to help pay for any additional costs. The money in this account will roll over year to year so that there is no rush to spend all the money at the end of the year.
In the article Mackey list his recommendations for real health care reform. He recommends: reform tax laws on health care, repeal government mandates on coverage, tort reform on malpractice lawsuits, make costs transparent, reform medicare and help people make a tax deducible donation to help those without health insurance.
These recommendations are a good starting point for debate on health care reform. They emphasis capitalism and a free market to drive down costs. These are the principles our country was founded on. Some people are more interested in power and controlling the lives of others. I want freedom and liberty from tyranny so I oppose the Obama health care plan.
