PS3's Mathematical anomaly in Japan

Last week the new slim PS3 was released in Japan.  Prior to the release the current model was dropped in price to help move the existing stock.  Well the prior weeks sales for the PS3 in Japan was 1,040 units.  Needless to say people weren't to interested.  Last week the PS3 sold 151,783 units an an increase of 14,494 percent.  Pent up demand?

It's interesting to see how this sales bump will affect the PS3 in Japan.  The console has been totally dominated by the Wii in Japan (and everywhere else) which has lead to poor software sales which in turn lead to poor game development support.  Sony surely paid the price for introducing their console at a staging $600 price tag three years ago.  Now that they have dropped the price in half, they have a chance to regain that market because of Nintendo's own refusal to cut their original sales price.
