Batman: Arkham Asylum Impression

Fans of the Batman comic have never had good luck when it comes to playing a video game version.   It seems like a no brainer that Batman would sell video games but until now there have been no games that have lived up to the quality of the comic book series.  Arkham Asylum is an excellent game that stays true to the comic book lore and creates a high quality gaming experience.

This time the story revolves around The Joker taking over the maximum security prison,  Arkham Asylum for the criminally insane.  As Batman, you need to thwart the Jokers scheme and fend off his goons.  The game plays like a 3rd person stealth game where you will be taking out thugs stealth-fully.  You will have times when you have to brawl as well.  The game has a combo system that will reward you for chaining attacks and countering attacks.  The combat is fairly easy on the standard difficulty so anyone can progress in this game.

As you progress through the game you will be given more of Batman's "incredible toys" to help you grain access to different areas.  You'll start out with the batterang and grapple hook to help stun goons and reach ledges.  You'll need to take to the high ground to see the best way to take out The Joker's men.  Some of the men will have knives and guns so Batman can't just run into a fight.  Gunmen will kill Batman with easy.  You'll need to use ledges and stealth to take out the goons without giving away your position.

The games goes a great deal of fan service by leaving items to collect and challenges to perform.  The Riddler has left several clues around the world that help you level up and of course deal with the Batman comic book lore.  Though out the game you will be facing several of the super villains from the comic book series as well.  Any Batman fan should love this game because it's full of insider info for and stays true to the original material.  I found the stealth game play a little monotonous over time always hiding and picking off goon one at a time.  The game is fairly lengthy so that didn't help with this feeling either.
