Android UI Adjustments

In my last post I mentioned I started testing on multiple resolutions with different screen sizes.  I've recently started making several UI changes to the application as I begun to understand concepts better.  I have started to incorporate these changes to make a better looking application.  I'd like the application to look professional and be usable on several phones.

My biggest UI tweaks have been the addition of the tabs at the top of the screen.  I wanted to make navigation between the four main screens as easy as possible so I decided to use a tabbed layout for navigation.  This also allowed be to add icons to the application for each tab.  I ended up cleaning out items from the menus by removing the now unnecessary options to view courses and rounds.

I also decided that I needed to remove the solid color background from my application.  The solid green was removed in favor of an image of grass I found online.  I didn't feel the plain background look good enough for a paid app.  This change improved the professionalism of the application's look and feel.  What this also did was make the text less viewable.  I tried several images and found one that I felt worked the best.  It was clear that on small 3.2" screens the text was barely readable but probably would be too small on the newer 3.9" screens coming out on phones now.  I decided to make the white font bold and change the default typeface to serif.

I'm probably close to making the app final but need to continue testing out the app.  I know of at least one bug that is failing on a specific set of data.  I'll probably need to add some more validation since right now I have none.  I hope to have the app on the marketplace by mid June.  That gives me time to continue building out functionality and test my app more vigorously.  I have a handful of some features I want to add to my phone and I imagine that list will grow as I continue to play with it and get some feedback.

PS I'll post new screen shots this week.
